A Message From The Director
We hope that you and your loved ones are safe and well in this COVID season.
I am always amazed as I consider how the commitment of one caring person makes a difference.
Just recently, a young girl who endured severe physical abuse was unable to access therapy until it was ordered by the court at CASA’s request. A teen who would have been placed in a residential facility due to self-harm was stabilized in a pre-adoptive home – preserving her fragile attachments and potentially permanent placement. Three children were reunified with a mother with the services needed to support the mother’s progress over previously destructive patterns. The stories are endless.
This we know – one caring adult can change the trajectory of child’s life. Forever. We are privileged to see these stories up close, and know very well the impact CASA has on overall outcomes for children. The right things often do not happen for children unless there is someone to advocate. That is CASA’s role. There is no other role within the system that matches a child with an adult who has the unique ability to advocate within the court system where critical decisions are made. (Continue reading)
We are grateful to you for taking part in these stories.
As everyone can attest, this has been a year like no other. CASA continues to provide compassionate advocacy both virtually and in-person with the recommended safety precautions. Our fundraising events, however; have been impacted by COVID. Furthermore, CASA programs across Michigan are likely to lose a significant federal funding source within the next year. These two sources comprise nearly half of CASA’s budget.
As we face the challenges of securing funding during COVID and the loss of a significant federal funding source within the next year, I am compelled to launch a broad scale Campaign to C.A.R.E. to meet the needs we see each day – needs that many do not see from the safety of their homes.
We are asking our donors and the faith-based organizations in our geographic area to 1) View the attached materials, 2) Watch CASA’s Virtual Campaign to C.A.R.E. and 3) Consider giving $600/year or $50/month to support CASA’s mission. This commitment would ensure ongoing advocacy for children in our area.
I am confident that CASA’s advocacy will not only continue – but grow to ensure accessibility for every child with court involvement due to abuse or neglect. Think of how our community would change if every child had one caring adult. Through your giving, YOU are a caring adult - and take part in these outcomes for children. We could not do this without you! Thank you for caring!
May care and concern for the wellbeing of all be magnified in this COVID season,
Becky Carson
